Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim and Lagos State Government have emphasised the need for greater collaboration and prioritisation of investment in the nutrition of women and children across the country if Nigeria is to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Two and Three.
With an estimated 57% of Nigerian women said to be anaemic, malnutrition remains a critical public health concern driven by high cost of living and food insecurity.
The UN Sustainable Development Goal Two which focuses on “Zero Hunger” and Goal Three on “Good Health and Wellbeing” underscore the importance of proper nutrition as the foundation of human lives and development.
The high cost of living and insecurity crisis that has driven many out of the farms causing food scarcity has however been a clog on the wheels of the Nigeria’s progress in this regard.
How to address these challenges especially as it affects women and girls formed the thrust of discussion at this 2026 Women in Power Conference in Lagos State.
A major highlight was the inauguration of Nutrition Champions and securing commitments around Anaemia Prevention and Treatment.
The Women in Power Conference brought together Legislators, Government Representatives , Development Partners and Civil Society Organisations.
