Four Suspects have been arrested by the Lagos state police command over their alleged involvement in a mob action that led to the untimely death of one Basit Kolade.
According to the statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos state command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, an argument ensued between Basit Kolade who was traveling with his wife along Lagos Island and a motorcycle rider which attracted the attention of some angry mob nearby .
The mob was said to have attacked Basit after he allegedly reversed his car, hitting the motorcycle rider after an initial collision, causing the rider and motorcycle to fall on the ground.
Kolade was said to have been rushed to the nearby hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries sustained, leading to his death, which the officials at the Lagos state General Hospital confirmed when he was brought in.
The four Suspects, Khalid Rafiq, ‘m’ 20years,Gafar Rahim,’m’ 21 years, Ibrahim Azeez, ‘m’ 33 and Samos Momoh, ‘m’ 21 years were detained by the police command and would be charged for homicide before the court.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos state Command, CP, Tijani Fatai, has assured members of the public that the investigation will be thorough and professional.
He Warned that an allegation of wrongdoing does not confer on anyone the right to take the law into their own hands.
The CP noted that the warning is Consistent with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu who directed Police Commands to treat cases involving Mob action from persons who incite, support such attacks resulting in death as homicide.
