President Bola Tinubu says his administration has fully redeemed the rewards promised to members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their outstanding achievements.
The President says each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official received the equivalent of $50,000, completing a reward package that also includes national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja.
Tinubu, in a statement, says the rewards were fully implemented after the government followed the processes required by law to ensure that every commitment was properly fulfilled.
The President says it is the first time a Federal Government has fulfilled presidential sporting rewards of such scale in full within one year.
President Tinubu also disclosed that his administration is concluding the payment of outstanding cash rewards promised to members of the Super Falcons.
He says the Super Falcons players and officials have already received the title documents for their house allocations and their National Honours certificates.
President Tinubu added that the promises of houses and national honours made to members of the Super Eagles have also been fulfilled.
The President says Nigerian athletes who bring honour to the country deserve more than applause, stressing that they deserve a nation that keeps its promises.
Tinubu urged Nigerian athletes to continue making the country proud, assuring them of the nation’s gratitude for their achievements.
