The maternal mortality ratio in Kano State has dropped from 1,025 to 358 deaths per 100,000 live births.
This represents more than a 50 per cent reduction.
The Kano State commissiner for Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran disclosed this during a two-day Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescentg Health and Nutrition Technical Working Group meeting in Kano.
Representing the Commissioner for Health, Dr Abubakar Labaran, the Director-General of the Kano State Drug and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, Pharmacist Ghali Sule, said the quarterly meeting was aimed at assessing the current health situation in the state and finding practical solutions to identified challenges.
The State Maternal, Newborn and Child Health Coordinator, Mansura Yahya, attributed the improvement in maternal deaths reduction to data-driven interventions and concerted efforts by the government and its partners to strengthen maternal healthcare services across the state.
The objectives of the meeting are to update stakeholders on the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition coordination activities across the state, and to track progress and follow up on agreed actions and recommendations among others.
