Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Joash Amupitan on Friday met Google’s Global Lead for Civic Responsibility, David Lopez, in Ottawa, Canada.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Global Conference on Responsible AI and Elections.
The conference brings together election management bodies, technology experts and other stakeholders to examine the opportunities and challenges posed by artificial intelligence in electoral processes.
Amupitan was accompanied by INEC’s Director of Information and Communication Technology, Lawrence Bayode.
The engagement comes as election management bodies and technology stakeholders increasingly examine the role of AI in strengthening electoral processes while addressing emerging risks ahead of future elections, including Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 general election.
