The remains of former Governor of the defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Muhammad Tukur, have been laid to rest in his family compound in Yola, Adamawa State.

The burial followed funeral prayers at the Modibbo Adamawa Central Mosque, Lamido’s Palace, attended by government officials, business leaders, politicians, family members and sympathizers.

Correspondent Anselm Nuhu has the details

It was a solemn gathering at the Lamido’s Palace in Yola, as family members, friends, political associates and well-wishers converged to bid farewell to elder statesman and former Governor of Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

The funeral prayer, conducted in accordance with Islamic rites, was led by the Grand Khadi, with mourners praying for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

From the palace, the remains were conveyed to the family compound in Yola, where he was finally laid to rest.

The atmosphere was marked by tears and grief, as members of the Tukur family and sympathizers struggled to come to terms with the loss of a prominent political and business figure.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who joined other dignitaries to pay his last respects, described the death as a great loss to Adamawa State, Nigeria and beyond.

Among the prominent Nigerians who attended the funeral was business mogul Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who described Bamanga Tukur’s passing as a major loss.

From the solemn prayers at the Lamido’s Palace to his final resting place at the family compound, the burial brought together Nigerians from across political and business divides to bid farewell to one of Adamawa’s prominent sons.
