Massive protest rocked the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ekiti State early Monday following the exclusion of the names of two senatorial candidates of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from the commission’s final list of candidates for the 2027 General Elections.
The protesters baring placards with various inscriptions demanded the immediate restoration of the names of the party’s candidates at the planned bye election for Ekiti North Senatorial District, Prince Adeyinka Ali and Ekiti South Senatorial District, Dr Ayokunle Olusegun.
Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Olusegun Adediji said the protesters were at the INEC office to demand the restoration of the two candidates to the commission’s list, adding that the candidates had invested heavily in the party and questioned the basis for their sudden exclusion.
The leader of the Obedient Movement in Ekiti State, Emmanuel Olamidotun, said the movement will not accept injustice against any candidate of the party.

The NDC Publicity Secretary in Ekiti State, Olawale Olatunde also warned that failure to restore the candidates could have dire consequences for the party’s electoral prospects.
The protesters and other leaders of the party however, urged INEC to urgently review the circumstances surrounding the exclusion of the two candidates and ensure that the names of the candidates who emerged from the party’s primary are reflected in the final list.
