BRICS: VP Shettima Returns To Abuja Summit

Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Nigeria after representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India.

The Vice President participated in high-level sessions and bilateral meetings focused on trade, investment, technology, and strengthening Nigeria-India relations.

During the summit, Senator Shettima met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Both leaders discussed renewed crude oil trade and deeper cooperation in pharmaceuticals, defence, fintech, digital technology, renewable energy, and other strategic sectors.

The Vice President also held talks with WTO Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to multilateralism and a more inclusive global economy.

At the summit, VP Shettima delivered President Tinubu’s call for reforms in global governance and financial institutions. He also positioned Nigeria as a gateway to Africa’s market under the African Continental Free Trade Area. Nigeria used the BRICS platform to deepen partnerships in agriculture, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, manufacturing, healthcare, energy, and human capital development.
