Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare the Second, has called for continuity in governance, saying there is no need to change the incumbent president merely for the sake of change.
The Benin monarch stated this when he received the APC Presidential Campaign Council, led by its Director-General, Abdulaziz Yari, at his palace in Benin City.
Receiving the APC Presidential Campaign Council, led by its Director-General, Abdulaziz Yari at his palace, the Oba of Benin said the Benin throne remains non-partisan and that his position should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any political party.
The monarch, however, questioned the rationale behind changing an incumbent president simply for the sake of change, stressing the need to support continuity where necessary.
Earlier, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari, explained the purpose of the delegation’s visit and made a case for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Also speaking, Edo State Deputy Governor, Dennis Idahosa, thanked the Oba of Benin for receiving the delegation and for his royal blessings, saying President Tinubu deserves another opportunity to continue his administration.
The royal engagement ended with the APC delegation expressing optimism about its 2027 presidential campaign and the support it seeks across Edo State.
