Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has directed the establishment of a Solid Minerals Investment Facilitation Desk as the state holds its maiden Solid Minerals Investment Roundtable.

The Governor said the State Government will synergise with the Federal Government to ensure that mining activities are legally undertaken, with consideration for host communities.

To set the ground for regulated and licensed mining activities in Taraba State, the maiden Solid Minerals Investment Roundtable was organised at the TY Danjuma House in Jalingo, the state capital.

The event was hosted by Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, and other attendees included Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals, Oladele Alake, licensed miners, prospective local and international investors, and other stakeholders from the mining sector.

Governor Agbu Kefas said the state is transitioning from unregulated mining to licensed and responsible mining, with a focus on security, environmental protection, local processing and value addition to host communities.

The Governor also directed relevant State Government authorities to establish a Solid Minerals Investment Desk to aid mining activities and investors in the state.

The Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake, said the Taraba State Government has the Federal Government’s stamp of approval in sanitising the mining sector. He urged the state to move from mineral occurrence to exploration and global investment opportunities.

The Taraba State Government issued an executive order in 2023 banning mining activities due to security and environmental threats.

The maiden roundtable on Solid Minerals Investment could be a pointer that the state is set to officially lift the suspension to allow for organised mining that will positively impact host communities.
