Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies to ensure effective policing and sustained peace across the state.
Governor Eno stated this when he received the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 6, Rashid Afegbua, at the Government House, Uyo.
Governor Umo Eno commended security agencies in the state for their commitment, dedication and synergy, which he said had contributed significantly to the peace enjoyed by the people.
He welcomed the new AIG to the zone and expressed optimism that his assumption of office would further strengthen the security architecture.
The Governor also commended the State Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, for his proactive role in maintaining peace and fostering cordial relations among security agencies and the civil populace.
He assured the Police and other security agencies of continued support to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.
Earlier, AIG Afegbua thanked the Governor for the reception and commended his administration for prioritising peace and security.
The new AIG said his visit was to familiarise himself with the leadership and people of the state and assured the Governor of his readiness to collaborate with the State Government to sustain peace and security for continued development.
The AIG also attended a two-day seminar on violence-free elections organised by the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, DSS, and Akwa Ibom State Government, with the theme: “Promoting Peaceful, Free, Fair and Credible Elections in Akwa Ibom State.”
