Troops of Sector Two, Joint Task Force Northwest, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 23 kidnapped victims, foiled terrorist attacks and arrested 4 suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group in separate operations across Sokoto State.
In a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Northwest, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the operations were conducted on September 20, 2026.
According to the statement, Troops swiftly responded to an attack on Sabon Gari in Wurno Local Government Area, where suspected terrorists invaded the community and opened fire sporadically, forcing residents to flee.
The Troops engaged the attackers, forcing them to withdraw from the area, and subsequently rescued 6 kidnapped victims.
One civilian who sustained a gunshot wound during the attack was also rescued and evacuated for medical attention.
In a separate operation along the Sabon Birni–Takatsaba road in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Troops acted on intelligence indicating an attempt by terrorists to cross the area around Chabe Biyu.
The Troops swiftly mobilised and laid an ambush along the terrorists’ suspected axis of advance.
Upon sighting the Troops, the terrorists came under fire and fled in disarray.
Similarly, Troops responded to a distress call concerning terrorist activities along the Isa–Kwanar Isa–Shinkafi road in Isa Local Government Area.
The Troops made contact with the terrorists and engaged them, forcing the attackers to withdraw.
A subsequent search of the area led to the rescue of 18 kidnapped civilians.
In another intelligence-driven operation, Troops intercepted suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group who were allegedly moving a herd of rustled cattle from Sarma Village towards Illela.
The Troops established a snap checkpoint along the suspected route and arrested 4 suspects.
Six cows were also recovered, while other suspects reportedly fled the area.
The Joint Task Force says efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The statement quotes the Theatre Command as saying that the latest successes demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-driven and proactive operations, aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and protecting civilians across the region.
