Schools across Kogi State have reopened for the new academic session following a prolonged break.
But the days resumption recorded low turnout.
The management of some schools say they are ready to help students regain lost academic time while providing them with the foundation needed for their future.
The principal of one of the schools said management is also taking steps to keep students and staff safe, urging students to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons or activities to teachers and school authorities.
Some parents, however, want the government to increase the number of security personnel around schools, provide fencing where necessary, and ensure that students are not kept on school premises beyond closing hours.
With the resumption of classes, attention now shifts to ensuring that students remain safe and that the academic calendar proceeds without further interruption.
