Nigeria’s House of Representatives Committee on Constitution Review has ruled out the amendment, seeking to provide immunity for presiding officers of the national, state houses of assembly and that of judicial officers.
The Deputy Speaker of the House and Chairman of the Committee, Ahmed Idris Wase, noted that legislators were already covered by immunity on activities on the floor of both chambers, by the powers and privileges act.
The committee however okayed the bill proposing 111 additional legislative seats for women in both Chambers of The National Assembly.

A Bill seeking to substitute section 214 of the Principal Act for a new section 214 (1) for the establishment of state police was declined by the committee.
The Chairman of the committee, said that the document will be ready in February for Presidential assent.
Both chambers of the National Assembly had in May and June 2021, held zonal public hearings across the 6 geopolitical zones of the country.
