Nigeria’s House of Representatives on Thursday queried the ministry of foreign affairs over non compliance of section 11 of the appropriation Act which mandates Nigerian Embassies and High Commissions to spend the capital components of their budget without recourse to the ministry.
The lawmakers expressed worry over the effrontery of the hierarchy of the ministry to issue counter memo directing the embassies to do otherwise despite the assented appropriation act by President Muhammadu Buhari.
They are concerned that the administrative bottlenecks and rot in the ministry of foreign affairs have negatively affected the country’s foreign missions and might get worse if urgent steps are not taken.

The House asked the Ministry to rescind contents of the letter countering an earlier letter written by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs to the Minister and the Embassies/High Commissions to request compliance with the provisions of Section 11 of the 2022 Appropriations Act.
