A medical doctor feared abducted in Makurdi has been confirmed to be in police custody.
The Benue State Police Command says the doctor was taken from his hospital on Wednesday by a Special Tactical Squad from the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja over an ongoing investigation.
The doctor’s disappearance had triggered reports of an abduction after armed men arrived in a vehicle and took him away from his hospital in Makurdi on Wednesday night.
But police say preliminary checks have now established that he was taken into custody by security operatives.
According to the Command, the arrest was carried out by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad attached to the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja in connection with an ongoing investigation.
The Benue State Police Command says it has not yet been briefed on the specific circumstances or nature of the investigation.
It is asking the media and the public to disregard reports describing the doctor’s disappearance as an abduction.
Police have yet to disclose what the doctor is being investigated for or provide further details about his arrest.
