Counsel to the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in the ongoing Ekiti State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, Ebenezer Akinbuyi, has raised fresh concerns over his safety following an alleged attack on him within the tribunal premises in Ado-Ekiti.
Speaking with journalists after Thursday’s proceedings, Akinbuyi said he no longer felt safe appearing before the tribunal, alleging that he was attacked by a crowd within the court premises, resulting in an injury to one of his fingers.
Meanwhile, counsel to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adetunji Oso, gave a different account of the application to relocate the tribunal.
Oso urged the SDP counsel to stop giving what he described as a false account of events, insisting that Akinbuyi was neither attacked within the court premises nor by members of the APC.
The Chairman of the three-member tribunal, Justice Abubakar Kutigi, adjourned proceedings until September 25, 2026, for continuation of hearing.
