The Nigerian Government has pledged continued support for the Nigerian Defence Academy, NDA, as it prepares a new generation of military officers for a battlefield increasingly shaped by technology.
Vice President Kashim Shettima stated this at the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
The Vice President, who was represented by the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, said modern security threats now extend beyond conventional warfare, with terrorism, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping increasingly accompanied by cyberattacks, disinformation and other emerging technologies.
He said the changing security environment requires military officers who can combine battlefield experience with technological knowledge, strategic thinking and sound judgement.

The Commandant of the NDA, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, said the Academy’s training now incorporates artificial intelligence-enabled learning tools, military simulation, cyber warfare concepts, intelligence analysis and counter-terrorism studies.
He added that cadets also receive practical exposure to armoured fighting vehicles, artillery systems, aviation assets, naval platforms and advanced simulation facilities.
According to him, the objective is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and the operational realities awaiting the cadets after commissioning.
The technology-focused training comes as the NDA graduates 444 officer cadets of the 73 Regular Course and 3,064 postgraduate students at its 36th Convocation.
