Civil Society Organisations in the environmental sector are calling for greater transparency, public participation, and accountability in decisions shaping Nigeria’s food and agricultural systems.
The call was made in Abuja at a stakeholders’ workshop to examine the implications of industrial livestock production, sustainable agriculture, and the future of Nigeria’s food systems.
The three-day workshop focused on issues affecting Nigeria’s food systems, food security, and rural livelihoods, with participants examining the need for sustainable agricultural practices and responsible investment.

The discussions also centred on how Nigeria can strengthen food production while addressing environmental concerns, climate change, and the changing needs of rural communities.
Participants examined emerging trends in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, particularly the growth of large-scale farming and its potential implications for communities, natural resources, and the environment.
The discussions further highlighted concerns around industrial animal agriculture, including its potential implications for environmental sustainability, community livelihoods, animal welfare, public health, and food sovereignty.
