In a bid to avert health emergencies arising from flooding, UNICEF, in collaboration with Rivers State primary healthcare management board, has stepped up plans to strengthen multisectoral preparedness and response to flood and cholera in the state
The meeting which brought together Keys miniseries, department, and agencies is geared towards developing a coordinated action plan to mitigate the impact of flooding for about ten states in the region
The three days capacity building workshop sponsored by UNICEF in collaboration with the Rivers state primary healthcare management board held in port harcourt is geared towards strengthening multisectoral preparedness and response to public health emergencies ,flood and cholera preparedness planning for selected ten states

Concerned by the increasing threat of flood and related disease outbreaks, the capacity building focuses on flood and cholera preparedness planning and aims to enhance early warning systems and improve community level response
Stakeholders stressed the need for a proactive and integrated approach to protect the venerable population during flood disasters
They added that the issue of emergency can not be handled by only one agency
Unicef officials reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Rivers state agencies with technical expertise to ensure effective emergency preparedness and response.
