Voters in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria have gone to the polls to elect Chairmen for the 17 Local Government Areas and Councillors to represent the 260 political wards of the State.
The election has been largely peaceful, according to the State Government, as Governor Peter Mbah joined other registered voters to cast his ballot on Saturday.
From the early hours of the morning, voters began arriving at polling units across Enugu State.
It is the 2026 Enugu State Local council polls, and the voting process was conducted through manual accreditation and thumb printing, as the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, ENSIEC, did not deploy BVAS for the election.
But while some polling units recorded impressive turnout, others had only a few voters, leaving a mixed picture of participation.

Casting his vote at Mbaguuzo Village Square, Asishi Owo Polling Unit 007, Governor Mbah said he was impressed by the reports he had received on the conduct of the election.
While the Chairman of the state electoral commission spoke of positives about the exercise, some observers, including ActionAid Nigeria, raised concerns about logistics and voter enlightenment.
This is the second Local government election being conducted under the Governor Mbah administration, with some members of the opposition parties applauding the consistency.
