The ancient kingdom of Opobo in Rivers State, South-South Nigeria has crowned a new king. He is His Majesty, King Charles Douglas Macpepple Jaja, Jeki the 6th.
At a well attended coronation ceremony, Nigeria’s former president, Goodluck Jonathan, Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, represented by his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu and others described the occasion as a signigicant milestone in Nigeria’s traditional institution.
As history was recorded in the ancient Opobo kingdom, traditional rulers from far and near attended the event including the Obi of Onitsha, Alfred Achebe, Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atwatse III and many others. The Obi of Onitsha, on behalf of other reagents, harped on the importance of Opobo kingdom.
