The Presidency on Sunday said President Bola Tinubu is hale and hearty and will return to Nigeria this week after his working vacation.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated this in a post on his X handle, saying the President has continued to discharge his official responsibilities while away from the country.
Onanuga said Tinubu has remained engaged in government business, including meetings with investors in France.
He cited the recent signing of agreements for the proposed $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun State, South-West Nigeria as evidence of the President’s continued engagement.
The President’s extended stay outside the country has generated public debate, particularly over his absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly, UNGA in New York.
The Presidency, however, maintains that Tinubu announced his annual vacation and delegated Vice President Kashim Shettima to represent him at the global gathering.
Onanuga also noted that the Presidents of South Africa and Egypt, Cyril Ramaphosa and Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, were not present at the 81st UN General Assembly.
He said President Tinubu will return to Nigeria this week to participate in activities marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
He added that the President will also attend the premiere of a movie commemorating the late democracy advocate, MKO Abiola, in Lagos.
President Tinubu who was expected to return from his “working vacation” on Monday, September 21, extended his stay in Europe “by a few days,” saying his resumption will be by the weekend.
With the weekend over, the Presidency says the President will be back next week ahead of the Independence Day celebration on Thursday, October 1.
