The presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Seyi Makinde, has pledged to “reset” Nigeria within four years if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Makinde, who is also the current Governor of Oyo State while addressing an APM North Central Town Hall Meeting held in Lafia in Nasarawa State, outlined plans to reform the country’s security architecture, education system, economy and socio-political environment.
Makinde told the APM North Central Town Hall Meeting held in Lafia that, if elected the next president of Nigeria, his administration will rely on data, science and evidence-based policies to address Nigeria’s economic challenges.
He also told the gathering that his government will introduce targeted programmes for women in agriculture, market women, widows and people living with disabilities.
The Governor criticised the current Federal Government’s economic management which he described as “voodoo economics.”
He argued that although all the three tiers of governments were receiving more revenue from the Federation Account, the increase had not translated into a significant reduction in hunger and hardship.
Makinde cited his administration’s experience in Oyo State, saying the state reduced its dependence on federal allocation from more than 80 per cent in 2019 to about 65 per cent by 2022.
On insecurity, the presidential candidate questioned the planning and budgetary provisions behind the establishment of additional army divisions, insisting that major security interventions must be properly planned and funded.
The APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle described the North Central as critical to Nigeria’s unity and development, decried the poor infrastructure, rising petrol prices, inadequate electricity and insecurity, saying the challenges continue to affect economic activities and the daily lives of Nigerians.
APM Governorship candidate in Nasarawa state, Mohammad Onawo who spoke on behalf of North central Governorship candidates insists that the 2027 election will be determined by Nigerians rather than political pundits, opinion polls, wealthy supporters or campaign spending.
The event was attended by APM officials, candidates from the North Central, campaign committee members, members of the disability community and other party supporters.
