A legal practitioner, Obunike Ohaegbu, has sued the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, at the Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking to compel the party to announce the result of its May 2026 primary election for Nnewi North/Nnewi South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency of Anambra State.
Ohaegbu, who claims to have won the primary, is asking the court to declare him the winner and direct the NDC to submit and upload his name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its candidate for the 2027 general election.
He also wants the court to restrain the NDC from recognizing or submitting any other person as its candidate and to bar INEC from accepting or acting on the name of any other candidate for the constituency.
The plaintiff alleges that although he scored the majority of lawful votes at the primary, the party failed to announce the result and instead adopted one of the defendants, Peter Uzokwe, as its candidate.
Hearing could not proceed on Monday after the court found that the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th defendants had not been served with hearing notices.
Justice Mohammed Umar consequently adjourned the suit to October 14, 2026, directing that evidence of service on all parties must be presented before the next hearing.
