Troops of Sector Two, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued 41 travellers abducted after their commercial vehicle broke down along a major highway in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to a preliminary report contained in a statement by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Northwest, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the vehicle was traveling from Senegal to Kano when it developed a mechanical fault along the highway.
The statement said bandits took advantage of the situation to attack the stranded vehicle and attempted to move the passengers into the surrounding area.
Acting on actionable intelligence, troops swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the armed group with superior firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon the victims and flee into nearby farmlands.
All 41 victims, comprising 24 males, 10 females, and seven children, were rescued unharmed.
The statement said the rescued travelers are receiving the necessary support and will be reunited with their families and transit authorities.
Meanwhile, troops are maintaining an active presence in the area as efforts continue to ensure the safety of travellers and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
