The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping of 20 women farmers working on a groundnut farm in Mukura village, Kasuwan-Garba District of Mariga Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman of the Police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun, who confirmed the incident, said it occurred on Saturday.
According to him, on September 28, a report indicated that on September 27 at about 3pm, suspected terrorists abducted over twenty persons at Mukura village, Kasuwan-Garba District of Mariga LGA.
Abiodun, however, said joint security rescue efforts were ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Mariga local government, Aliyu Muhammadu, also confirmed that 47 farmers, all women, working on a groundnut farm were kidnapped, and that one of the women had given birth in their custody.
Muhammadu also added that the kidnappers have made contact with the families of the women, demanding a ransom of 2 million naira for each of them before they would be released.
