Labour leaders in Kano State and at the national level have highlighted Governor Abba Yusuf’s record on workers’ welfare as a key factor that could influence the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking exclusively to AIT on the sidelines of an event at the Government House in Kano, the labour leaders said prioritising workers’ welfare remains an important measure of good governance.
The labour leaders maintained that workers’ welfare will remain a major reference issue in assessing the performance of any administration, and for them, governor Abba Yusuf has performed in these regards.
The union leaders want residents, particularly civil servants and retirees, who are beneficiaries of the government’s interventions to watch the antecedents of those presenting themselves for political office and do the needful.
On the infrastructural development and state urban renewal drive witnessed in the state, they commended the zeal with which the governor is placing the state on the list of smart cities in Nigeria.
For Governor Abba Yusuf, the message from organised labour is clear: sustaining attention to workers’ welfare and delivering on governance commitments could remain central to the political conversation ahead of 2027.
