Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has granted absolute pardon to 130 inmates and commuted the death sentences of four others to life imprisonment as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Governor Mutfwang exercised the constitutional powers following consultations with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
In a goodwill message marking the anniversary, the governor also called for renewed commitment to national unity, peace and development.
He urged Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence, honour the sacrifices of past leaders and remain committed to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
Mutfwang described nation building as a collective responsibility and urged citizens to preserve Nigeria’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity while rising above ethnic, religious and other differences.
The governor also acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in promoting national unity, peace and economic development.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a peaceful, secure and inclusive Plateau State and commended residents for their resilience, patriotism and contributions to the state and the country.
Governor Mutfwang urged Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to remain hopeful and contribute to building a nation that reflects the aspirations of future generations.
