The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has re elected Audu Titus Amba as its National President for a second term.
Amba was returned at the Union’s Delegates Conference, with teacher welfare, shortages and working conditions among issues expected to remain on the agenda during his new tenure.
During his first term, Amba led the Union’s push for the implementation of the special salary structure for teachers, improved allowances, extension of service years and better retirement benefits.
The NUT also advocated greater professionalisation of teaching, retraining to meet changing digital demands and improved protection for teachers and schools affected by insecurity.

Under the Union’s Study Circle programme, more than 4,000 State Wing Executive Council members were trained across 32 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Amba begins his second term at a time the education sector continues to contend with funding challenges, teacher shortages, infrastructure deficits and concerns over teachers’ welfare.
The Union is expected to continue engagement with federal and state governments, the National Assembly and other education stakeholders on policies affecting teachers and the wider education sector.
