The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria, BON, has raised concern over rising operating costs in the broadcast industry, identifying energy expenses and the foreign exchange cost of imported equipment as major pressures on operators.
In a message marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, BON says the challenges will not deter broadcasters from holding leaders accountable and supporting national unity and democratic development.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to accurate, balanced and credible information, while expressing concern over the spread of fake news, misinformation and disinformation, particularly on social media.

BON also acknowledged ongoing efforts to address insecurity and the sacrifices of the military, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and other security agencies.
The message, signed by BON Executive Secretary, Dr Yemisi Bamgbose, says the broadcast media will continue to promote equity and justice and contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and development.
