Young Nigerians are demanding the implementation of 35 electoral reform recommendations developed from nationwide consultations across the six geopolitical zones.
The demand follows the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, with youth advocates insisting that attention must now shift from legislation to effective implementation.
At a stakeholder engagement in Abuja, participants reviewed the new electoral framework alongside recommendations generated from consultations with young people across the country.
The organisers say the consultations identified concerns about participation, voter registration and public confidence in the electoral process.
One of the key recommendations focuses on continuous voter registration, with participants demanding clear legal and administrative provisions to guide its implementation.

The organisers also say members of National Assembly committees on electoral matters were taken across the geopolitical zones to engage directly with young people and hear their concerns about the electoral process.
Stakeholders say sustained engagement among young people, electoral authorities, lawmakers and other relevant institutions will be necessary to translate the recommendations into practical changes.
For the youth advocates, enactment of the new electoral law is only the first step. Its implementation, they say, will determine whether the reforms make a difference.
