The Kabiru Turaki led interim leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rejected President Bola Tinubu’s declaration that Nigeria has crossed its economic “Red Sea,” arguing that the President cannot cast himself in the role of Moses.
The rival PDP faction backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike struck a different tone in its Independence Day message, telling Nigerians not to despair and insisting that the country’s future remains bright.
Reacting to President Tinubu’s Independence Day address, the Turaki led PDP leadership turned the President’s biblical analogy against his administration.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Emambong, the faction described the Tinubu administration and the All Progressives Congress as the “Pharaoh” from which Nigerians need relief.
It argued that Nigerians would have an opportunity in 2027 to choose the leadership they believe can address the economic difficulties confronting them.

The Wike backed faction of the PDP, however, focused its Independence message on hope, peace and national cohesion.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the faction acknowledged the challenges facing the country but maintained that Nigerians should not despair.
It called for peace, unity and patriotism, while asking citizens to reject violence and corruption and place national interest above personal and sectional considerations.
The faction also asked Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of the country’s founding fathers and others who have contributed to national development.
The contrasting messages come as the rival PDP leaderships continue to project separate positions on national and political issues.
