Tinubu/Shettima

As preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum, leaders and stakeholders from Nigeria’s North Central region have launched the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, an inclusive political movement aimed at mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates across the region.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the movement held at the office of the Secretary to the government of federation in Abuja on Friday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, said its principal objective was to canvass support and mobilise a massive turnout for the President in the 2027 election.

He commended Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono for his initiative and contribution towards bringing the forum to fruition, stressing that the North Central’s objective was to deliver the highest regional vote total for the President.

The Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency Abdullahi Sule, commended the initiative, describing it as a timely and necessary political vehicle. He also praised Senator George Akume and the National Coordinator, Arc. Sonny S.T. Echono, for their roles in establishing the movement.

Governor Sule observed that the challenges ahead of the 2027 election were gradually receding, adding that the latest voter register indicated strong support for the APC in the North Central. He expressed confidence that the region would deliver the highest number of votes for the President and other candidates contesting under the APC platform.

He noted that the political strength of the North Central, which currently boasts the SGF, the National Chairman of the APC and several key political appointees, was significantly stronger than it was ahead of the last election.

He said the region would leverage the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima to take the party’s message to the grassroots and mobilise support across the region.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of

On his part, the National Coordinator of the North Central Grassroots Mobilisation Movement for Tinubu/Shettima 2027, Arc. S. T. Echono, said the conversation was no longer simply about whether President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the North Central, but about the region positioning itself to deliver the highest number of votes to the President in the 2027 election.

Echono commended the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the North Central Governors’ Forum and other critical stakeholders across the region for their steadfast commitment and support for the Renewed Hope Administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said the forum would serve as a formidable launchpad and strategic mobilisation platform, bringing together political leaders, grassroots actors and other stakeholders across the North Central under a shared vision and common purpose ahead of the 2027 elections.

Information, Hon. Mohammed Idris Malagi, described the movement as the first of its kind. He commended the National Coordinator for his initiative and assured stakeholders that the necessary structures would be put in place to support the movement’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the 2027 general election.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the forum adopted four key resolutions aimed at strengthening its mobilisation, communication, coordination and reconciliation efforts ahead of the 2027 general election.

The meeting resolved to intensify electoral mobilisation and support for President Tinubu in 2027, with the stated objective of delivering the region’s highest vote total.

It also agreed to organise a grand rally in Lafia, Nasarawa State, alongside a medical outreach programme, the establishment of a Reconciliation Committee and the organisation of town hall meetings across the region.

On publicity and communication, the forum resolved that the Minister of Information would collaborate with State Commissioners for Information, State Publicity Secretaries and state-level publicity committees to increase awareness of the initiative, with the support of the respective state governors.

The motion was moved by Hon. Idris Wase and seconded by the APC National Vice Chairman for the North Central zone.

The forum also resolved to establish a North Central-based Reconciliation Committee to work alongside the National Chairman, the SGF and the NWC in addressing internal grievances within the party and promoting greater cohesion among APC stakeholders across the region.

The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the stakeholders to strengthen grassroots engagement, improve coordination among party leaders and mobilise support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general election.
