Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo has commended teachers across the state for their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to educating future generations, assuring them that his administration will continue to prioritise their welfare and strengthen the education sector.
In a message marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, the governor described teachers as critical to the development of society, stressing that meaningful progress depends on investing in those responsible for shaping the knowledge, character and skills of future leaders.
He said his administration had absorbed 5,000 contract teachers into the state civil service and recruited 6,000 additional teachers to address staffing gaps in public schools.
Okpebholo said the administration would continue to improve teachers’ working conditions while investing in schools and the wider education system, ensuring that children in both urban and rural communities have access to qualified and adequately supported teachers.
He thanked Edo teachers for their service and patriotism.
