The Plateau State Government says it is strengthening eye-care services to make quality eye care more accessible to residents across the state.
Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Baamlong, stated this in Jos during activities to commemorate the 2026 World Sight Day, which is observed on October 8.
With the theme “Love Your Eyes,” experts say many causes of blindness can be prevented or treated when detected early.
The Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Nicholas Baamlong, says the government is integrating eye health into the broader health development agenda of the state.
Development partners and eye-care professionals at the event also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the delivery of eye-care services, particularly to residents in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
The 2026 World Sight Day, marked globally on October 8, will be commemorated in Plateau State with activities including eye screening and cataract-removal surgeries for 100 beneficiaries, as part of efforts to reduce avoidable blindness and improve access to eye care.
