The Federal Government is intensifying efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system and advance its Universal Health Coverage targets through increased local production of essential medical products, including vaccines.
The National Coordinator of the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, PVAC, Dr. Abdu Mukhtar, gave the indication in Abuja, saying the proposed end-to-end vaccine manufacturing facility is a major step towards reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported vaccines and improving access to essential healthcare.
Addressing the gathering, the PVAC National Coordinator said strengthening domestic vaccine manufacturing will improve Nigeria’s health security, build resilience in the healthcare value chain and support the government’s broader drive towards Universal Health Coverage.
Dr. Mukhtar said the government is working with relevant stakeholders to establish the policies, financing mechanisms, regulatory environment and skilled workforce required to support sustainable local vaccine production.
