Police in the FCT have arrested a 27-year-old woman, Precious Yohanna, who allegedly inflicted injuries that led to the death of her newborn baby in the Jabi area of Abuja.
In a statement signed by the police public relations Officer FCT command Josephine Adeh, the lifeless body of the male infant was discovered in a nearby bush with injuries to the throat and abdomen.
The statement said the baby was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The statement revealed that following the directive from the commissioner of FCT, the suspect, who is the mother of the deceased, was traced with the assistance of members of the community and arrested.
Preliminary investigations indicate that she allegedly gave birth to the baby in her room on October 3 and subsequently inflicted the fatal injuries with a razor blade.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that she acted out of hatred for the child’s father.
The Commissioner condemned the incident as a grave violation of human life and assured that the suspect will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
The Command also urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
