The Federal Road Safety Corps has called for accurate data collection and analysis to identify accident-prone roads and develop effective measures to reduce crashes across Nigeria.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed made the call at the 2026 Special Marshals Zonal Conference in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where he also stressed the need for stronger collaboration among road safety stakeholders.
Hundreds of Special Marshals from Ogun and Lagos States gathered in Abeokuta alongside representatives of transport unions, the National Youth Service Corps and other road safety stakeholders.
The focus was on how reliable information about road crashes, traffic patterns and other safety challenges could help prevent accidents and save lives.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed urged Special Marshals to improve data collection, reporting and analysis to support decisions on road safety interventions.
He said accurate information would help the Corps identify emerging risks, assess existing measures and direct resources where they are most needed.
The Corps Marshal also called for stronger cooperation with government agencies, transport organisations and other stakeholders to reduce crashes on Nigerian highways.
Participants reviewed existing road safety strategies and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and improve the use of data in crash prevention.
The conference, themed “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact Through Strategic Partnership and Data-Driven Road Safety Interventions,” emphasised the role of reliable information and coordinated action in protecting road users.
