The All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Ebonyi State have continued to exchange words over the activities of the State government owned local security outfit, Ebubeagu, and the controversial cyber crime law in the State.

While the main opposition party, PDP accused the APC led government of using the local security outfit to consistently unleash terror on innocent citizens and residents of the State, with its members being the prime target, the APC dismissed the allegations as mere false alarm by PDP.

The State Chairman of PDP, Tochukwu Okorie, at a Media briefing in Abakaliki, alleged that the Ebubeagu security outfit, since its creation has become a burden to the people of the State, forcing several businesses in the Abakaliki metropolis to close down.

Okorie expressed concern on how the State government was using a controversial cybercrime law and the Ebubeagu operatives to harass, intimidate and persecute members of the opposition as well as innocent citizines.

But, the APC Chairman, Stanley Okoro-Emegha, who doubles as the security consultant to the State government, insisted that the operatives of Ebubeagu, have contributed immensely to restoring peace and security in the State.

Okoro-Emegha however noted that the bad eggs in their midst were being fished out.

Both the PDP Chairman, Tochukwu Okorie and his APC counterpart, Stanley Okoro-Emegha throw blames on recent security breeches in the State.

On the contentious cyber crime law signed into law by the State Governor in 2021, the PDP accused the state government of unleashing the law against those with dissenting opinions from the government even as the ruling APC maintained that the law is not partisan.
