A midnight fire has destroyed at least five shops in Felele, Lokoja, Kogi State, destroying goods worth millions of naira.
Residents suspect a power surge, but the cause of the fire has yet to be officially established.
The fire, which reportedly broke out around 1 a.m., destroyed electronic appliances, solar panels, refrigerators, grinding machines and other goods.
One of the affected traders, Abdi Rafi Asad, recounts how he rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call from his wife.
Residents say the lack of firefighting equipment hampered efforts to contain the inferno.
Although no casualties were reported, the affected traders are appealing to the Kogi State Government for assistance to recover their losses.
Residents are also calling for an improved emergency response to prevent similar incidents.
