Nigeria is stepping up efforts to digitise its public service, with the Federal Government embracing emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve governance and service delivery.
The government is targeting a hundred per cent paperless public service within the next two years as part of efforts to modernise public administration.
These were key highlights of the fourth GovTech Conference, which brought together stakeholders to explore technology-driven solutions for a more efficient, transparent and citizen-centred public service.
Discussions at the GovTech Conference centred on leveraging emerging technologies to improve public service delivery, promote inclusion and drive socioeconomic development across federal, state and local governments.
The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Dasuki Arabi, expressed optimism that Nigeria’s public service would rank among the world’s top twenty in the coming years. He also highlighted the implementation of the Federal Executive Council-approved E-Government Master Plan, which targets a fully paperless public service within two years.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the SGF, Ibrahim Kana, said artificial intelligence had become a global reality, noting that Nigeria was embracing emerging technologies to strengthen public administration.
The conference also served as a call to action for increased investment in digital infrastructure and stronger collaboration across all tiers of government, with stakeholders emphasising the need to harness technology for more efficient governance, improved service delivery and sustainable national development.
