The proposed National Policing Bill 2026 is nearing completion, with the Presidential Working Group putting the level of preparation at 90 per cent.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, made this known on Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following a part-by-part consideration of the proposed legislation.
He said the meeting reviewed the bill extensively, with stakeholders expected to reconvene to address outstanding issues and ensure that all provisions are properly considered.
The Chief of Staff also explained that transmission of the bill to the National Assembly would depend on the completion of the relevant constitutional amendment process and the necessary state-level approvals.

Gbajabiamila said there was a national consensus on the need for policing reform, expressing confidence that stakeholders would remain committed to the process.
He described the proposed legislation as potentially one of the most consequential bills of the Tinubu administration, arguing that Nigeria could not continue with the same approach to policing while expecting different results.
