Bayelsa Election: 42 Political parties undertake to conduct themselves peacefully

Forty -two Political parties in Bayelsa State have signed a peace accord ahead of next week’s governorship election.

The accord was signed at an INEC stakeholder meeting in Yenagoa where the electoral umpire said it will not tolerate any attempt to disrupt the electoral process for the November 16 governorship polls. 

This comes about three weeks after the INEC stakeholders parley with traditional leaders and political parties in Bayelsa State ended in chaos. The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  Mahmood Yakubu along with the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu visited Yenagoa to tie up loose ends. 

The stakeholders meeting also witnessed the signing of the peace accord by 42 political parties participating in the election. 

According to the electoral umpire, offences including vote -buying and selling, snatching of ballot boxes, impersonation of security agencies and INEC officials.
