The glitches that marred Nigeria’s 2023 general elections remain a concern for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
The Commission’s National Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, says INEC will not tolerate a repeat, urging staff to uphold professionalism, verify information and play their part in delivering credible elections.
It is day two of the INEC National Chairman’s visit to Enugu, with an interactive session for staff from across the South East geo-political zone, forming part of an assessment of the Commission’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Recognising that credible elections depend not only on technology and logistics, but also on the integrity of the officials conducting the polls, Amupitan urged personnel to take their responsibilities seriously and ensure that every stage of the process meets the required standards.
The INEC boss also identified misinformation and false narratives as major threats ahead of the elections, urging staff to verify information before sharing it and help protect public confidence in the electoral process.
The South East is the third geopolitical zone visited by Professor Amupitan in a series of interactive meetings designed to engage staff and assess preparations for the 2027 elections.
