The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Plateau State, Brigadier General John Sura (Rtd.), has unveiled Chundung Kele as his running mate for 2027 governorship election.
At the unveiling ceremony in Jos, Sura expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Addressing supporters drawn from the 17 local government areas of Plateau State, Sura said Kele’s experience in grassroots politics and public service informed his choice of her as running mate.
The ADC governorship candidate also addressed concerns over the state’s zoning arrangement, insisting that his candidacy would not disrupt the existing power-sharing understanding.
In her acceptance speech, Kele expressed confidence in the ADC’s capacity to provide purposeful leadership and meet the aspirations of the people of Plateau State.
The unveiling comes at a critical time for the ADC in Plateau State, with the party facing an internal leadership dispute and ongoing litigation over its governorship candidacy.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, the party’s ability to resolve its internal differences, unite its members, and present a common front will be crucial to its electoral ambitions.
Whether the unveiling of Kele will strengthen the party’s position and consolidate its support across the state remains to be seen, as the ADC seeks to mount a credible challenge to the ruling APC.
