As Nigeria intensifies efforts to strengthen food security and transform its agricultural sector, the Agriculture experts are calling for increased innovation, resilience and strategic partnerships to secure the future of food production.
Speaking at a summit with the theme, “Feeding the Future: Scaling Innovation, Resilience, and Partnerships in Nigerian Agriculture,” stakeholders highlighted the need to move agricultural research beyond scientific discoveries to practical solutions that improve farmers’ productivity, strengthen food systems and build resilience against emerging challenges.
Feeding a growing population requires more than producing enough food. It demands an agricultural system that is innovative, resilient, inclusive and capable of responding to the changing realities of farmers and consumers.
This was the central message at the annual conference of the Agricultural Society of Nigeria, where attention is focused on scaling innovation, strengthening partnerships and building a more sustainable future for Nigerian agriculture.

Participants emphasise that scientific excellence alone cannot transform the sector. Innovations must be supported by effective agricultural extension services, appropriate regulation, quality assurance, accessible financing, dependable infrastructure and strong local manufacturing capacity.
The conference also highlights the urgent need to strengthen agricultural resilience in the face of climate variability, emerging pests and diseases, land degradation, water scarcity and disruptions in global supply chains.
The ultimate goal is an agricultural sector capable of delivering sustainable food production, improved livelihoods and lasting food and nutrition security for all Nigerians.
