The FCT High Court has adjourned till December 1 for continuation of hearing in a civil suit involving Jordan Nyesom-Wike over an alleged $2.1 million land transaction in Abuja.
Following the outcome of proceedings on the last adjourned date, a lawyer representing the claimants involved in the dispute called the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to a petition seeking an investigation into allegations of fraud, obtaining money by false pretences, criminal misappropriation and conversion against Jordan.
According to the petition, the money was allegedly paid to Jordan to facilitate the allocation of hectares of land in Katampe and Guzape districts of Abuja, but the promised allocations were not delivered.
The petitioners claimed the payments were made in cash in the presence of witnesses and that subsequent efforts to reach Jordan were unsuccessful.
Their lawyer explained that although the civil dispute is already before the FCT High Court, the petition seeks an investigation into the alleged criminal aspects of the transaction.
Jordan has denied the allegations, maintaining that he was outside Nigeria during the period the claimants alleged the money was handed to him. He reportedly tendered his international passport before the court, stating that he travelled abroad using his American passport.
