The Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria has warned that the widening gap between leaders and citizens is undermining nation-building.
In a communiqué issued after its fifth national conference in Abuja, the forum urged a renewal of moral values to help rebuild trust.
The conference examined the theme, “Rethinking Nation-Building: Bridging the Leadership-Citizen Disconnect.”
The forum’s National Chairman, Chris Akomas, said the disconnect extended beyond government to institutions, communities and families.
He warned that no nation could develop while its people felt alienated from those in leadership.
Former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and former Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari urged Nigerians to demonstrate greater patriotism and support efforts to improve governance and public services.
