Security operations alone cannot eliminate violent extremism in Nigeria, according to the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, IPCR.

The institute says prevention also requires stronger community ties, public trust and measures to address the conditions that leave people vulnerable to radicalisation.

Violent extremism continues to threaten lives, livelihoods and social stability in parts of Nigeria.

At this roundtable, policymakers, security agencies, civil society organisations and religious leaders are examining how communities can help prevent radicalisation and violence.

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution says security operations remain critical, but lasting prevention also depends on building trust and strengthening social cohesion.

Participants are discussing practical ways to help communities recognise and resist extremist influence while promoting inclusion and peaceful coexistence.

The institute is seeking recommendations to strengthen responses at both national and state levels.

The discussions place communities at the centre of prevention, with an emphasis on cooperation among residents, religious leaders, civil society organisations and security agencies.
